3 Year Olds Newsletter

Dear Parent,

This week we are preparing for Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd. We are reading some of his books and doing activities inspired by them. Our learning goals are: I can listen to a story, I can cut in a straight line, I can match numbers and colors, I can trace various lines, I can trace my name, I can make a pattern, I can order the letters in my name, I can find letters in my name, I can identify my friends names, I can count objects to match a number, and I can tell if two words rhyme.

Reminders

March 1-Fish fry kitchen cleanup and staging starting at 1:00. Volunteers appreciated.

March 7th- First Fish Fry from 4:30-7:30. Enjoy live music inside or our speedy drive thru. Dessert donations can be dropped off on Thursdays. Contact me if you are interested in volunteering.

Tips for Parents from Preschool Teachers

Tip #7 Develop predictable routines. Kids cooperate in school because they know what's expected of them, says Beth Cohen-Dorfman, educational coordinator at Chicago's Concordia Avondale Campus preschool. "The children follow essentially the same routine day after day, so they quickly learn what they are supposed to be doing, and after a while barely need reminding." While it would be impractical to have the same level of structure at home, the more consistent you are, the more cooperative your child is likely to be, suggests Cohen-Dorfman. Decide on a few routines and stick to them: Everyone gets dressed before breakfast. When we come in from outside, we wash our hands. No bedtime stories until all kids are in jammies. Eventually, following these "house rules" will become second nature to your child.

Have a blessed week enjoying this taste of Spring!

Sincerely,

Pamela Nunnelley
