Nov 17, 2025 - Class Update
4th & 5th Grade Newsletter
Religion - We are in the middle of Unit 3 The Sacrament of Baptism. We continue to learn a new virtue weekly.
Spelling - Unit 13 this week. No spelling next week. We'll continue with Unit 14 after Thanksgiving Break.
Grammar - We are learning about proverbs, adages, and idioms this week. No new Grammar next week. It will be a review of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. In December on Dictionary Skills, Roots & Affixes in words, and will be followed by a Review week of all Unit 2 topics.
Reading - Comprehension Book lessons continue, with a quiz after 6 lessons. We are also reading "Moccasin Trail" by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. It is an historical fiction story taking place in the 1800s. We are reading aloud as a group. After each chapter or two students answer questions or give predictions about the story. Please do not read this at home or watch a movie based on this book. We are finding out what happens together. Thank you.
Social Studies - Westward Expansion is our topic in American History. "Moccasin Trail" tells the story of one family's move out west. This is a good way to tie reading and history together.
Science - We continue to learn about matter, along with physical and chemical changes.
Writing - We will begin writing a narrative piece. This will be done at school based on step-by-step directions from the Mystery Writing curriculum.
Cursive writing will also be introduced/practiced during this time using worksheets.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Arlene Truitt
